Connecting matters.

I schedule a meeting. I greet a new business. I check out a local shop. However, it happens - I become invested in learning more, more about the business and more about the person directly in front of me. Even with coworkers, I want to know them beyond their role. While it is important to know what their role is, and how that is connected to the larger picture - it is just as important to get to know the person as an individual. What are their goals, ambitions, preferred style of communication, and motivations? What are some of their challenges and wins? Am I able to support them in some way, and further can I create beneficial connections to others?

There are so many ways to stay connected today. While so much is moving digitally, do not overlook the power of creating connections in person, or write a letter, send a postcard - even leaving a little post note wishing someone a good day can make such a positive impact.

Whichever way you connect - make it positive. Take the time to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful ways.

Why is taking a public space and transforming these beautiful urban landscapes temporarily into community focused events so particularly important to me? In part, bringing together the creative and service sector and our community is beneficial to encourage economic and community engagement through community event platforms, and because people need spaces to truly connect with one another. These community events transform public spaces, like parks, streets and vacant lots, to celebrate our cultural vitality and inspire these settings to become readily utilized by the public by encouraging both our civic and government organizations to activate these urban spaces into remarkable friendly places. Connecting our people to the places in our city through community events is a transformative process of urban landscape and mindset. This is the very reason place making in our community starts with a bit of exploration and community events are just one avenue to initiate this process.
